Humble Beginnings
Hardwood Floor and More began in 1987 when master craftsman James Wilson recognized a need for premium hardwood flooring services in the community. After spending fifteen years working with various flooring contractors, James had developed an unmatched expertise in hardwood installation and refinishing. With just a small workshop in Portland and two dedicated employees, he established what would soon become the region’s most trusted name in flooring.
Growth Through Craftsmanship
By 1995, our reputation for exceptional quality had spread throughout the Pacific Northwest. As demand grew, we expanded our team to include additional master installers and finishers. That same year, we opened our first showroom, allowing customers to explore our growing selection of domestic and exotic hardwoods in a dedicated space.
The early 2000s marked a period of significant expansion as we introduced engineered hardwood options to meet the evolving needs of our customers. In 2003, we completed our first commercial project—providing custom flooring solutions for the Grand Pacific Hotel renovation, which earned us recognition in Architectural Digest.
Embracing Innovation
In 2008, amid challenging economic conditions, we made the pivotal decision to invest in advanced milling equipment. This forward-thinking move allowed us to begin crafting custom hardwood flooring solutions in-house, giving our clients unprecedented options for personalization while maintaining strict quality control.
By 2012, sustainability had become a cornerstone of our business philosophy. We established partnerships with responsible forestry programs and became one of the first flooring companies in the region to offer FSC-certified hardwoods and recycled wood products.
Expanding Our Expertise
The addition of Michael Wilson, James’s son, to the leadership team in 2015 ushered in a new era of innovation. With a background in sustainable architecture, Michael helped pioneer our eco-friendly flooring line and expanded our services to include radiant heating solutions compatible with hardwood installations.
In 2017, we celebrated our 30th anniversary by opening our current flagship showroom and design center—a 15,000-square-foot space that showcases our complete product line and features interactive displays that help customers visualize their flooring options in various settings.
Today and Beyond
Today, Hardwood Floor and More employs over 50 skilled professionals, including master installers, designers, and customer service specialists. Our portfolio has grown to include thousands of successful residential and commercial installations throughout the country.
While we’ve evolved considerably since 1987, our fundamental commitment to craftsmanship, quality, and customer satisfaction remains unchanged. Each project still receives the same meticulous attention to detail that built our reputation over three decades ago.
